St Andrews lies on Scotland's east coast 55 miles north of Edinburgh on a promontory of land that juts out into the North Sea between the wide waters of the Firth of Forth and the long estuary of the River Tay.

By Road
From Edinburgh the M90 motorway heads north over the Forth Road Bridge towards Perth. The A91 to St Andrews is clearly signposted, leaving the motorway just beyond Kinross and the journey takes little more than an hour.

By Rail
The railway branch line that once ran right through the heart of the St Andrews links into the town was abandoned in the 1960s and Leuchars Junction, five miles away, is now the nearest station. London to Aberdeen express services stop at Leuchars and there are frequent commuter trains from Edinburgh and Dundee.

By Air
Edinburgh airport is being greatly expanded and in addition to a large number of domestic flights from all parts of Britain there are an increasing number of connections directly into Europe.

Most transatlantic flights arrive at Glasgow International airport. The city of Glasgow is under two hours from St Andrews by road. Charter flights sometimes arrive at Prestwick airport. From Prestwick the journey is about an hour longer.

There are also flights into Dundee which is within a 20-minute drive of the Old Course.
