Centrepiece of the 250th anniversary celebrations of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in 2004 was the Amateur Championship, played over the Old and Jubilee courses. Around this major championship, events to commemorate the founding of the Club in 1754 also featured competitions for local golfers, including juniors, and an international foursomes event in which teams from golfing nations around the world took part.

The largest marquee ever erected in St Andrews was the venue for 1,200 guests at a time for a series of dinners hosted by the Club Captain, HRH The Duke of York. Speakers included past Open champions Arnold Palmer and Peter Thomson.
